About the Book
Since its inception in 1971, no individual enrolled in the Witness Security Program
under the active protection of the U.S. Marshals Service has ever been harmed...
...until now.
Two witnesses have vanished within the last twenty-four hours; who knows how many
more will follow. While investigating the disappearances, Marshal Dan Sloan and his
colleagues discover an unsettling connection between the missing witnesses – both
testified in the same trial.
Two years ago, Anthony Torino, the youngest son of a Chicago crime boss, killed a
business associate in cold blood. In addition to the missing pair, two other people
were entered into the Witness Security Program as a result of Anthony's trial,
Katherine Dalton and Johnny Russo.
Assistant District Attorney Katherine Dalton was seriously wounded while preparing
the case against Anthony. She continued to receive death threats during and following
Anthony's trial, necessitating her long-term protection. Johnny Russo, a mid-level
member of the Torino crime syndicate, also testified against Anthony as part of a
plea bargain. In exchange for his cooperation, Johnny was granted immunity from
prosecution for the attempted murder of the person he had recently shot in the
chest, Katherine Dalton.
Desperate to uncover who was responsible for the impossible, yet undeniable security
breach that led to the disappearances, the U.S. Marshals Service whisks Katherine and
Johnny back to Chicago. After returning to the Windy City, the beleaguered couple
encounters explosive run-ins with federal law enforcement agents, members of the
Torino organization, and each other.
Chicago is the setting for much of "Insecurity." The Windy City's rich heritage and
interesting sites provide a wonderful backdrop for the action and mystery that unfold
on the novel's pages.
In addition to the primary narrative, "Insecurity" incorporates historical data and
fascinating information on a variety of subjects.
